London based Franco-Canadian Chloé Raunet has been immersed in the world of post-punk, cold wave and her own brand of off-kilter synth-pop since the days she fronted her band Battant. She’s now got a fully fledged solo project under the name C.A.R. (Choosing Acronyms Randomly).
Following debut LP ‘My Friend’ and multiple releases on cult Parisian imprint Kill The DJ, her second album ‘PINNED’ is out now on Ransom Note.
‘Layered, fascinating and irrestible’ - DJ Mag
‘An astonishingly accomplished record … Many influences are on display, but C.A.R. connects them in a way uniquely hers.’ – Electronic Sound
Playful, machine-driven and dark, C.A.R.’s music travels between glacial electronica, groovy post-punk and warming, introspective pop, all emanating from a self-confessed crush on too many genres. Known for uplifting underground music crowds with her distinct sound, clever lyrics and unique delivery, she’s also wooed the fashion world through her sense of originality.
A fan of the weirder edges of electronic music, she DJs and co-hosts a fortnightly show on NTS Radio called 239EF (formally Latete Atoto).
As well as working on her own music, C.A.R.’s husky, sometimes spooky, sometimes angular vocals have found themselves adorning tracks of others. A sought-after lyricist for those in the know, most recently she’s worked with Trevor Jackson, Vito & Druzzi (The Rapture) and Scratch Massive’s Sebastien Chenut. CARAXES, a project with hyped Tel Aviv ambassadors Red Axes was an underground sensation of Summer ‘16. Previous to that, she featured on Maceo Plex’s hit MIRROR ME (Kompakt) and penned / delivered the lyrics on Gesaffelstein’s highly acclaimed debut ALEPH (Parlophone). She has also worked with Andrew Weatherall, Ruede Hagelstein, Marc Houle, Boris Dluglosh, It’s A Fine Line, Krikor & Padded Cell ++
